What Is in Vape Juice: 5 Ingredients In Vape Juice

Are you new to vaping and wondering what you are breathing in? Maybe you’ve been vaping for a while and are just curious about what e-juice is made of. While there are only a few ingredients, it is empowering to understand what goes into your vape juice and why.

Overall, there are five different ingredients you can get in a vape juice. These are strictly regulated and scientifically produced to make them safe for consumption. It might be interesting to learn about each e liquid ingredient and how it works.

What is in vape juice? Here are the five main ingredients in vape juice:

Ingredient #1: Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable Glycerin or VG is a food additive from palm trees, soybeans, and animal fat. It is safe for human ingestion, water-soluble, and a thick liquid like syrup. VG is used in many different products, including:

Food: It acts as a sweetener and thickener in:

  • Yogurt
  • Cheese
  • Baked goods
  • Processed foods

Personal Care Items: It preserves moisture and helps with absorption in:

  • Toothpaste
  • Makeup
  • Shampoo
  • Deodorant
  • Skin cream

Why is it in vape juices? It gives you a smoother hit with less throat irritation, but the main reason is that it can produce a large amount of vapour. Cloud-chasers prefer juice with a high VG ratio for thicker clouds. Because of its thick texture, it can gum up your tank and is harder to clean.

Ingredient #2: Propylene Glycol

PG is also a food additive because it thickens ingredients and helps them retain moisture. Common products with PG are:

  • Soda drinks
  • Salad dressings
  • Ice cream
  • Cake mixes
  • Deodorants
  • Lotions
  • Shampoo
  • Topical ointments
  • Toothpaste

PG comes from petroleum and is odourless and colourless but has a sweet taste with a texture that is runnier than VG. It is a safe, consumable chemical found in human and pet foods and your vape juice.

Propylene Glycol delivers the flavour in vape juices and comes in varying ratios giving a sharper flavour, but a stronger throat hit. It’s a lot like inhaling cigarette smoke. Cleanup is easier as it’s a thinner compound, but some people may be sensitive to it and have an allergic reaction.

Ingredient #3: Flavour

While this is the 3rd ingredient on the list, the variety of flavours is in the thousands. Flavours are derived from natural and artificial sources and are made to replicate familiar and exotic tastes from various food and drink. There are different categories of flavouring too.

Dessert Flavours: include chocolate cake, cinnamon buns, ice cream sandwiches and lemon tart.

Drink Flavours: You can have milkshakes, sodas, slushies and even root beer. Also, alcohol flavours include champagne, brandy, whiskey, and many others.

Candy Flavours: How about your favourite candy bar or a crispy rice square? You can get candy flavours like gummy bears, licorice and bubble gum.

Menthol Flavours: These juices give you a cool sensation and can combine with candy and fruit on their own in peppermint and spearmint.

Tobacco Flavours: For people that want to quit smoking, these flavours are helpful. They have most of the different cigarette brands and sweet tobacco, cigar, spiced and menthol.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed because you will never be able to try every flavour. Start with your favourite foods, drinks and candy, and you’ll be deep into the world of flavour.

Ingredient #4: Nicotine

Nicotine is an additive in vape juice, but not always. It all depends if you want it there or not. It is a great way to transition off of cigarettes, and you have the ability to use different levels to wean you off of it altogether and have 0mg nicotine juices.

For those that don’t know, nicotine is an addictive substance found in nightshade plants and is a stimulant. While it is in cigarettes, what causes cancer is the additional additives and tar when they are burned and inhaled. E-cigarettes were first developed as a way to transition off of cigarettes but became a huge hit. Still, nicotine juices provide great replacement therapy for smokers because it is less harmful.

Nicotine can come in two varieties:

  • Freebase: This is like regular nicotine and comes in 12 mg – 0 mg.
  • Nicotine Salts: This mimics the hit of a cigarette without the harsh taste, allowing a higher nicotine strength from 25 mg – to 50 mg.

Ingredient #5: Cannabis

Cannabis is another ingredient that you can have in your vape juice. THC juice has all the same ingredients with the addition of THC concentrate or cannabis oil. You can also get CBD juice.

The liquid is extracted from marijuana flowers to get the cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes out, leaving you with a potent product to vape. If you like to consume cannabis and want to vape it instead of smoking it, you can get many different flavours and potency levels. You will skip the smoke smell and produce fewer toxins this way.

Once you you know what’s in your juice, you canstart experimenting with different strengths and juices until you find your favourites.
